5 Driving Safety Tips for Holiday Travel in West Palm Beach, FL | Call 800-332-6436

With more cars on the road comes more risk for accidents. If you’re traveling to (or a resident of) destinations like Orlando or West Palm Beach, you can expect a lot more of both, as Florida is currently the second most popular choice for warm-weather destinations, according to this year’s bookings.

According to a holiday-travel forecast article from AAA, an anticipated 103 million Americans are to be traveling during the December holidays this year. Of that amount, 93.6 million are expected to travel by car—a number that tends to increase by a couple of percentages each year. Here are some helpful driving safety tips to avoid a personal injury in West Palm Beach:

1. Avoid dangerous intersections at night, if possible.

Some of the most notoriously dangerous intersections in Palm Beach County include:

– Military Trail and Okeechobee Blvd.
– Military Trail and Forest Hill Boulevard
– Southern Blvd and U.S. 441
– Boynton Beach Blvd and Congress Ave.
– Congress Ave and Gateway Blvd.

2. If you plan to drink, also plan to catch a ride.

While many adults do drink responsibly, there are some that underestimate how alcohol has affected their ability to drive. A good rule of thumb—especially during the holidays—is not to drive if you’ve had any alcohol in your system at all that evening. Taxi services like Uber make it fun, cheap and convenient to enjoy a safe ride with friends or family during the holidays.

3. Be mindful of major local events.

Although travelers may be headed to different destinations across West Palm Beach, it’s good to know where the most popular events are and when a lot of traffic can be expected. These events include: Countdown to 2017 at Harbourside Place, Wyndham Grand Jupiter’s 2017 New Year’s Eve Celebration, Downtown Lights the Night, Celebration at CityPlace, J Street Block Party, and more.

4. If you’re traveling with kids, make sure they have the proper child restraints.

Even if you consistently drive safely as a parent, there’s not a whole lot you can do to prevent other drivers from doing the same. If someone else hits your car, the best way to protect your child is to have them in the proper restraint for their age. 5. Beware of drowsy drivers, too.

Accidents aren’t just caused by drunk or reckless drivers during the holidays. They’re also often caused by drowsy drivers. Because this time of year is when people have just finished cramming the remaining year’s work into a short amount of time before the holidays, when people are busy enjoying their vacation time, and when holiday shopping is at its peak, sleep deprivation is a lot more common. Try to get a good night’s rest whenever possible to avoid accidents caused from drowsiness.
